How Acidity Influences Your Health and Weight

Your body must maintain a balance between the acid and alkaline levels of the blood and tissues. When we are out of balance we suffer from numerous health problems. Unfortunately, most Americans are out of balance and over acidic.


Acid overload comes from eating the wrong foods. Our diet of meat, refined carbohydrates, sugar, fast food, coffee, soda, and white flour is highly acidic. It's also very fattening.


Your body will do everything it can to keep acid levels in your blood stream and tissues stable. Excess acid in the body is neutralized in a couple of different ways. Amazingly, your body will create new fat cells to carry away the excess acid. The more acid, the more fat cells created. And even worse, once a fat cell is created you cannot get rid of it.


Your body will also pull calcium from the bones to neutralize the acid. This weakens your bones and contributes to osteoporosis. The calcium stored in your bones is used to keep your blood at a constant pH. Our blood must stay within a very small range of acidity. If the blood's pH level is too low (too acidic) calcium will be taken from the bones to buffer (alkalize) the blood.


Remember, the blood becomes too acidic from eating refined carbohydrates, caffeine, soda pop, processed food, white flour, alcohol and animal protein.

Excessive exercise to the point of exhaustion also causes acidity. Moderate exercise on the other hand, causes alkalinity. Certain emotions and thoughts can cause stress. Stress contributes to acidity.


Keeping you body more alkaline will keep you thinner and healthier. Simply by changing your diet you can change your pH. Eating leafy green vegetables and fruits keep the body alkaline. Eating foods containing chlorophyll will help to alkalize the blood and prevent osteoporosis. Eighty percent of the foods you eat should be alkaline forming foods.


You will lose weight when you switch to a more alkaline diet. Acid wastes damage various parts of your body. As you become alkaline you will become healthier. Many common health complaints will disappear. Make the switch now to an alkaline diet and live healthier and longer.
